snarklyboojum: (what was that? was that a plot point?)
I don't update for a month and then I post with a meme. What?

The sad part is I have things to say, but they all drift into the internet ether by the time I log on. And all my interesting stories are about the aquarium. Is anyone interested in hearing fish drama? 'Cause I can hook you up.

Ah, well.

The Movie Meme, last seen at [livejournal.com profile] estepheia's.

1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions. Totally cheating, you dirty cheaters....

Here we go! )

Holy god but does this look wicked awesome! Color me officially excited for the sequel. All my favorites are back, and Heath Ledger as the Joker? Can have my freaky deformed babies any time. Er. Strike that. Reverse it. And according to imdb, Harvey Dent makes an appearance.

*squees in geekish joy*

And in other news? I love IcyHot. Through its judicious application and plenty of ibuprofen I'm slightly more human today than yesterday. In fact, I was loose enough to do a little dance in my chair when this song came on. Of course, when I get out of the chair it's going to be another story altogether...

No, no, no, no, no, I am not getting sick. Stop it, throat. Stop it! Who the hell gets sick in JULY for crying out loud? I hope it's just allergies, though it feels a hell of a lot like a cold. To which I say, NAY!

Anyway. Finally saw Order of the Phoenix today.

Forgive me for overuse of the word 'awesome' and random thoughts in no particular order, would you please? It's been a long day. )

All in all not the worst of the lot, but certainly not the best either. (PoA continues to reign supreme!) I give it about a B, maybe a B-. The book was better. Well, parts of the book were.
snarklyboojum: (gandalf and frodo - it's like that)
Only not really, because it's cold outside and I hate seafood. Still, I'm here! Forgive me el jay, it's been ages since my last confession.

You know, upon re-reading that last sentence, it occurs to me I still may be a little crazy from the traditional Easter chocolate gorging. Mmmm, Cadbury.

Work has been...not worth it lately. The bills are piling up and it's just getting way too stressful. The animals are still awesome, it's just the management that screws it all up. And about ninety percent of the employees are sick, myself included. This doesn't bode well.

Since it's looking more and more likely that he's going to move in with us permanently, I've taken upon myself to introduce my nephew (now 12) to some of the finer points of pop culture. We're starting small with Awesome Films Of Yesteryear. He adored King Kong, thought Ferris Bueller's Day Off was the funniest thing ever (a child after my own heart), and is making plans for acquiring Moulin Rouge on DVD, though I think that has more to do with can-can dancing and lingerie than a particular desire for cinematic excellence. The latest endeavor was The Princess Bride, before which we had this discussion:
The Nephew: *eyes the Dread Pirate Roberts dvd* The Princess Bride. I dunno... Is there any violence?
Me: *smiles* Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, escapes, true love, miracles...
TN: Giants?
Me: Yup. Andre the Giant is almost a bad guy.
TN: Sweet! Sounds cool...we can try it for a while and if it sucks I can play my PSP.
Me: Thank you. Your vote of confidence is overwhelming.
I kid you not. Needless to say he loved it. He was pretending to be a R.O.U.S. all night and jump on me every chance he got. Although he laughed for ages when he heard Mandy Patinkin's name. He changed his tune right around the first sword fight, oddly enough. ;) (Btw, Prince Humperdink and Count Rugen are totally gay for eachother, just thought I'd mention.)

Any suggestions for movies he might like?

Oh! I almost forgot. I'm working on another batch of Threadless icons, mostly from the out of print sections. If there's one you'd like to see iconized, leave me a comment and I'll see what I can do. Here's the first batch, to avoid doubles.

I haven't had that much fun watching the Oscars live in years, and I can't really fault any of the awards. I pretty much called it - even though I've only seen a handful, shh - except for Pan's Labyrinth. How happily shocked was the Not-Really-German guy? And I was totally expecting Dreamgirls to take home the Oscar for best song. Funny thing - when they cut to Randy Newman you could tell he knew he was screwed.

I rented the 'Best of the Oscars' video from the library twice. Expect rambling. )
snarklyboojum: (so tired i can't sit straight anymore)
I just used the last of my Christmas money to buy Gorillaz "Demon Days" cd. I liked the singles from their first album, but never really got into them at the peak of their popularity. Last year (or was it the year before?) the girls and I took a trip down to Louisville to see [livejournal.com profile] disi, among other things. [livejournal.com profile] spoonthefork played this album almost exclusively in the car and it lent amazing atmosphere. After listening more closely I like the tracks just as much as I did then, and really, it is the perfect nightdriving soundtrack. Plus, it has Dennis Hopper doing a cameo. How can that be bad?

Finally went to see Night at the Museum, and it was a lot more enjoyable than I thought it'd be. All I really have to say is this... )

All right. To bed with me. My vision is blurred and my lumpy mattress is calling.
snarklyboojum: (is it all books and words?)
Before heading off to work a mildly horrific party until the wee hours of the morning, mom and I took my nephew to see Eragon. He was excited. I was indifferent. I've never read the books, but remember hearing all the excitement about the series when it was first released, much the same as with the Harry Potter books. (Working in a library will do that to you, I suppose.)

I'm going to cut my reactions, though if you click you'll understand why I shouldn't. )
